Back at it with the Phillies and the Red Sox as we cashed with the Sox as our POD yesterday. The Phillies have been owned by the Red Sox losing 14 of their last 17 match ups. However, I have learned that the Phillies are one of the more resilient teams in the bigs. They are 7-1 in their last 8 games following a loss.
The pitching match up of Dice-K and Bastardo should be a good one as Bastardo will make his home debut.
I really like this bastard ha ha. He has proven himself in AA (1.82 ERA this year) AAA (2.08 ERA) and now MLB (2-0 2.45 ERA) through two starts on the road none the less. He still has a long way to go before we can consistently back him here, but given Dice-K's struggles this year and the Phillies resilience. I think it is safe to say we got a good chance to take this game.
Dice-K in his last three starts has a 5.17 ERA with a 1.98 WHIP. The Phillies hitters are extremely patient so he is going to have to get his control under control. I just do not think he'll be able to do it on the road here where he has a 7.36 ERA.
Other worth notables: Philly 38-16 last 54 when facing a pitcher with a whip of 1.30+. Home team is 14-4 last 18 saturday's when the umpire is behind home plate.
