I like the momentum the Rockies made with last night’s win over the Cardinals scoring 9 runs in the bottom of the 9th last night to win 12-9.  Today they’ll look to carry that momentum over against Jaime Garcia who is having a fabulous year, but will face a team that thrives vs. lefties at home with a .295 average and 5.25 runs per 9.  Rockies are 25-10 in their last 35 home games vs. a LH starter.  They are averaging 9.18 in their last 10.  Cardinals on the other hand go up against Aaron Cook who has had a lot of success at home with a 2.64 ERA and against the Cardinals who in 103 combined AB have just a .184 average and .552 OPS.

Cook pitched two gems against the Cardinals last year totaling 13 IP with just 1 ER.  Cardinals in their last 5 have a .197 average vs. RHP and on the road are just at .247 and 3.53 runs per 9.  Cardinals are 4-12 in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a winning record, while the Rockies are 9-2 in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning record and 61-29 in their last 90 overall as a favorite.

This is a rare play for me on a team like the Astros but I see too much value on this with the Pirates with just 11 runs on the road this year.  Moehler has a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts and will go for Houston.  Astros are 11-3 in Moehler’s last 14 home games vs. a losing team.  Pitsburgh has a 5.79 ERA on the road compared to Houston’s 4.11 and they throw Daniel McCutchen who has an 11.32 ERA on the road this year and 8.87 overall.  In Moehler’s last three starts vs. the Pirates he’s gone 21.1 IP giving up 17 hits and 7 ER for an ERA of 2.96.
