We have a big game here on Thursday night as two ACC teams battle for the Coastal Division relevancy between the Hokies and the Hurricanes. Don't miss out as we have it backed with a full in depth analysis.

Virginia Tech -1 4.4* NCAAF POD
Both teams are coming off a bye week and the winner could be a top of the Coastal Division. So as bad as the season has gone it can still turn around and I’m picking the Hokies to be the team better prepared for this situation because they have been here before and have more experience. Miami is a young team that’s getting better each week, but they are still far away giving up nearly 500 yards a game. I’m thinking QB Logan Thomas should have success passing and succeed leaning on the rush as Miami’s defense is just not capable of putting together 4 quarters of quality defense against a team that does have some quality weapons. The bye will allow them to put in plays and I also expect a lot more time on the field for Corey Fuller at WR who has not been starting, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make some big plays against Miami’s young secondary.

More than anything the reason I like the Hokies tonight is there defense. All over forums and the media people are saying this group is not the same defense, but wait a minute they returned 8 starters. They have not played up to that potential allowing 65 more yards per game and several big plays, but that doesn’t mean they can’t finish the season better than last years group. We have started to see a turn in the last two games. Through their first 6 games this group had just 8 sacks and in the last two they have had 10. That includes 5 against a capable Clemson offense whom which they held to just 295 yards. You want to say Virginia Tech’s defense isn’t any good? How did they hold Clemson’s top ranked offense to just 295 yards on the road? The difference has been the emergence of sophomore Luther Maddy who has 4 sacks in the last two games. He’s anchoring the middle of that defensive line and allowing LB like senior Bruce Taylor and junior LB Jack Tyler to roam free and make tackles in the backfield for which they have 58 of.

Virginia Tech has very good special teams and a great place kicker and they have been far better in third down defense ranked 32nd while Miami is ranked 87th. The Hokies have come off extra rest and hit the road the last three years and they are 3-0 SU and ATS. This team still has everything to play for and are 22-6 ATS in their last 28 November games, 19-5 all time on Thursday night ESPN games.
