Coastal Carolina +10.5 3.3% play
Only 23% of the money on Coastal Carolina here, despite BYU traveling 2200 miles across the country at the last minute. I know BYU the more experienced team with motivation to blow out Coastal Carolina. So I feel good about my feeling on this game.
I give BYU credit for scheduling this game and traveling to face Coastal Carolina for a top 25 matchup to help their resume. BYU a double digit favorite here is questionable in my opinion when you look at the fact that Coastal is a very balanced team offensively, defensively, and against similar competition. Yes, BYU faced Boise State on the road, but that was a very much down Boise team for that game, and BYU crushed them. BYU has faced one top 65 rushing offense, and it was against UTSA who rank 18th in rushing offense and only lost at BYU by 7. Coasatal Carolina ranks 29th, but come with the far more balanced offense with a capable QB ranking 10th in QB Rating 10th in EPA passing offense, both far better than what UTSA possesses. Coastal also has the far better defense than UTSA. I compare this game to UTSA, because UTSA was the only team that BYU had to respect the run.
BYU also struggled defensively against Houston, which is probably the most comparable offense for BYU, and they gave up over 400 yards. Houston actually led 26-14 late in the third quarter, before they gave up 4 straight TD’s to lose 43-26. Houston also has very poor special teams play, compared to Coastal who ranks top 10 in special teams.
