We'll be going with the Pirates today as our POD as Charlie Morton faces Micah Owings. Both starters have been pretty bad as of late, but I'll take the Pirates at home here for many reasons I'll explain below. Not only do the Pirates have a winning record at home and have won their last 3, but the Reds have been terrible on the road 5-14 in their last 19 losing all by 1+ after starting the season playing well on the road.
Morton whose ERA sky rocketed after 10 ER in 1IP @ the Cubs during a day start. It was an unfortunate outing, but the Cubs are the best hitting day team at Wrigley. Morton's home starts have been a polar opposite with a 3.13 ERA he has just a 1-3 record so you know he's motivated against a team he has a good chance to win against. His last 3 home starts he has a 2.50 ERA and will face a beaten up Reds lineup. The Reds are hitting just .215 in their last 5 vs. RHP and have scored 3.66 R/9 over that period. Looking back further they are scoring just 3.39/9 vs. RHP. They are 8-21 in their last 29 road starts vs. RH starter and again they send one of their worsts to the mound here on Friday night in Owings.
The Reds are 1-6 in Owings last 7 road starts and his ERA over his last 3 road starts he has not gone more than 5 innings and he has 11.90 ERA. He has not had success against the Pirates over his career with a 6.86 ERA so look for the Pirates to win this one as they are 4-0 following an off day with Morton looking to bounce back here as well as the Reds beaten up lineup never facing the Reds before.
