It seems as though whenever the Rockies come close the Dodgers push the accelerator and start playing solid baseball.. It has happened again as the Dodgers have won 3 of their last 4. Tonight they will take on another NL West team hopeful of the playoffs in the Giants. Vincente Padilla toes the mound for the Dodgers against Johnathan Sanchez.

Sanchez has had a solid year behind the aces that are in San Fran, but against the Dodgers it has been a different story. The Giants are 1-5 in Sanchez starts vs. the Dodgers and it's because the Dodgers are a patient team. Sanchez struggles with his control. Against the Dodgers this year he has yet to go longer than 5 innings and has 10 BB in a total of 15 IP allowing 14 hits and 9 ER. He's got a career 5.52 ERA against the Dodgers and if he can't go more than 5 innings the trouble will start to hit as the Giant bullpen will have to step up and it has a 6.00 ERA in the last 5 games. Dodgers are also a much better team vs. LHP this year on the road they are scoring 1.10 more runs per 9 innings vs. LHP than RHP. Last 5 the Dodgers are only hitting .226 and scoring 3.24 runs per 9 but they have only faced lefties in relief so now facing a LH starter I'm confident they'll be scoring some runs as is their average on the road of 5.86/9 innings vs. LHP.

Padilla has done well since coming over to the NL and although he's not really considered an innings eater when he is int here he has the poise of a veteran starter. He's gone 16.1 innings giving up 16 hits 4 BB and 12K's with a 2.76 ERA since joining the Dodgers in three starts. Giants have not seen him since 2006 and I think he rolls another quality start here tonight even if he does not go 6+ innings I like it as the Dodgers got 8 innings last night from Kuroda and their bullpen is one of the best in the bigs since acquiring George Sherill from the Orioles. They have a .68 ERA last 5 and 1.33 ERA last 10! Dodgers are 20-8 in their last 28 Saturdays and 5-0 when facing Sanchez in their last 5.
