Early game here and I like the Rockies to continue their winning ways at home where they are 40-20 this year.  They are 31-18 during day games on the year scoring more runs than they do at night and they have a better ERA during day games at 3.61 compared to their night 4.31.  So does their starting pitcher Jason Hammel who is 7-1 at home with a 3.43 ERA and 3-2 with a  3.89 Day ERA.  Hammel with a  3.44 ERA in his last 3 starts can really dominate a game and in 2 game starts vs. the Reds that’s what he’s done over 14.1 IP 11 hits 2 walks 18K’s and 5 ER.

Reds start rookie Travis Wood again and the lefty has a hard task of facing the Rockies on their home turf as they are red hot right now averaging 7.07 runs per 9 over their last 5 games including a .383 vs. LHP over that span.  Wood went 6 IP 3 hits and 1 ER with 4 BB in his first start vs. Colorado but that was at home and now the Rockies are home where they have a .302 average vs. LHP and score 6.22 runs per 9.  Carlos Gonzalez is a force with a 1.606 OPS this month and a .567 average.  He’s a different beast at home hitting .394 including .324 vs. LHP on the year.  He went 0-3 vs. Wood the first game, but I don’t see that happening this afternoon.  You worry about the Rockies vs. LHP but not at home.  They recently beat up a RED HOT Ted Lilly who gave up 7 ER.  Lilly bounced back in his next start going 7 IP giving up 2 ER so it had everything to do with just how hot this Rockies team is.

Rockies are 38-15 in their last 53 home games 48-19 vs. NL Central 22-6 vs. the Reds in their last 28 home and 32-15 in their last 47 at home vs. the LH starter, and 20-6 in Hammel’s last 26 home starts.
