Padres +170 2* Early Bird Bonus
I feel there is tremendous value here as the Padres try to avoid the sweep in this twilight game.  For one the hitters are likely to be dealing with some shadows in this game making it that much harder to get hits and score runs.  Secondly Yu Darvish has a 6.23 ERA in his last 4 road starts and it is not like he faced amazing hitting teams in Oakland and Seattle who he gave up 6 walks a piece to.  That’s Darvish weakness control.  The Padres actually draw walks as they are 8th and should be able to get some runs based on that as they did so against Lincecum scoring 4 ER in 6 IP.  The reason I bring that up is Darvish is 4th in the league with 5.13 BB/9 and Lincecum is 5th.  Darvish is back on 4 days rest and should have some issues throwing strikes.  On the flip side Anthony Bass has not been as bad as the stats say.  He’s got a 3.62 ERA at home a 3.15 Day ERA compared to Darvish’s 5.32 and his left on base % of 60.7 and .303 BABIP have been some what unlucky.  I think he’s poised to catch the Rangers by surprise today.

Athletics -108 4.5* MLB POD
Just how hot are the A’s?  Well they are 2nd with a .798 OPS in June if you can believe it while the Dodgers are 29th with a .635 OPS in June mostly due to losing their MVP Matt Kemp.  They’ll face Tommy Milone who has struggled of late with a 7.88 ERA, but those were all road starts.  He returns home on 6 days rest where he has a 0.98 ERA and 0.85 WHIP.  He’s faced some really good teams to in KC, CHW, DET, LAA, NYY.  He’s had quality starts against them all and now he’s backed by an offense that’s putting up some runs.  His greatest weakness has been the long ball, but not at home and certainly not against the Dodgers who have just 5 HR in 18 games since losing Kemp.  Every other MLB team has at least 10 HR in that time frame.

Nate Eovaldi has pitched well, but he’s been lucky too.  He has a 1.82 ERA, but a .268 BABIP and a 88.2% LOB show he is closer to a 3.91 ERA which is his xFIP.  I’m impressed by his 95mph fast ball but when you throw it nearly 75% of the time teams will catch on fast.  He can’t seem to get his secondary pitches over and Oakland is 2nd in the last two weeks in hitting the fast ball.  Oakland is 5th in the league in taking walks and as I mentioned there is no hotter team other than maybe the Yankees right now than the A’s and they are nasty at home and have dominated this series in recent years going 12-4 in the last 16.  They are also 96-46 in their last 142 inter league games as a favorite.
