I like the Rockies to continue their hot streak of hitting here today. Mainly because Edinson Volquez has absolutely no control and Carlos Gonzalez remains red hot with an 18 game hit streak. He's hitting .393 at home this year with 12 HR and playing like an MVP. Cargo is 3-6 vs. Volquez and the Padres will have a stiff task going up against another LHP today in Christian Fredrich. Not only are the Padres 25th in OPS in June while the Rockies are 3rd, but they are 29th in OPS vs. LHP while the Rockies are 2nd vs. RHP. Friedrich also looks like he's not a good pitcher when you look at just his ERA, particularly his home ERA which is over 11. However, a closer look and I like his ability to shut down a Padres team that struggles to hit lefties. For one Friedrich has 8.46 K/9 and 3.09 BB/9 that's pretty decent numbers for a young pitcher. His .375 BABIP is what has hurt him along with fly ball rates, but this was a similar case with Jeff Francis yesterday and now that he's facing a team that does not win with the home run he should have a quality start.
